After requesting a transfer to the Western frontier during the U.S. Civil war, an army officer makes contact with the local Sioux Indians. As he gets to know them better, he discovers that all of the stereotypes and rumours about them are wholly unfounded. As he gradually earns their trust, he is accepted into their tribe.
