William Castle directs this American horror starring Joan Crawford as Lucy Harbin, a woman who has spent 20 years in a psychiatric hospital after the axe murder of her husband and his mistress. Now, she has moved in with her daughter Carol (Diane Baker) who is due to be married, but there are tensions between the two families. Meanwhile, when a number of vicious murders are committed, Lucy's past means she is suspected of having once again lost her sanity.
